We are wrapping up our A is for Apple unit this week. The apple trees of America will thank me as we will be taking a break from apple purchasing! It was another fun filled week of reading, eating, crafting, writing, memorizing, learning, and just being silly together. Boy do we have fun : )
We talked a lot about the fruit of the Spirit and what it means to bear fruit. We discussed what it means to stay in Jesus and how our lives are evidence of His work in us. As we walked through our day we identified good fruit in our actions and words. (And sometimes, our fruit wasn't as ripe and sweet as it could be….)
I was inspired this week by Jim Trelease's book, The Read Aloud Handbook. I've always been a proponent of less tv and more reading, but this book validated my thoughts and inspired new ideas for our reading time. This is a must read and even a must purchase if only for the read aloud book list in the appendix. I was drawn to homeschooling for many reasons, but one being that I want my kids to truly learn to love learning - because learning and true education never ends no matter our age. We continue to learn and educate ourselves our entire lives and one way we do that is through reading, even if it's for pleasure! The Read Aloud Handbook offers great insight for making reading and loving to read practical even at a very young age!
