The Dice
Psalm 22:18 "They divide my garments among them and cast lots for my clothing"
Prophecy fulfilled. God's plan unfolding.
It wasn't just a cruel death that Jesus suffered, it was horrendous, brutal, absolutely crushing. He was left naked and destitute, void of any human dignity. The Roman soldiers "cast lots" to determine who would get to keep His seamless garment, the most valuable piece of clothing. Kept it, sell it….
How often do you sell Jesus for "something better". How often do we (ahem, do I) treasure and value people, stuff, money, clothes, etc over Jesus. Judas sold Jesus for a mere 30 pieces of silver, the price often paid for a dead slave. This Jesus, who restores us and redeems us, He bought us at a hefty hefty price. He secured for believers a lasting home in His Kingdom; He secured us for the day of redemption. May I never trade my Jesus for cheap substitutions.
"Here's my heart Lord, take and seal it, seal it for Thy courts above……."
