Easter Advent Day 9

The Spear - we read through John 19:31-37 which graphically recounts the soldiers spearing Jesus' side, bringing forth blood and water, confirming His death. A pretty graphic and violent story- this crucifixion- but a death necessary to rescue a lost people, and an essential part of the Gospel message. I spoke with the boys about blood. It's innocent blood that makes atonement (Lev. 17:11) in the OT it was a lamb, a picture of how one day Jesus would die as the Lamb of God- the perfect and complete sacrifice. The sinless Son of God paid the penalty of our sins himself. Not only did He pay the price but He bore our sins (1 pet 2:24). The weight of our sin....the STAIN.

Today we looked over white carnations. Beautiful, holy, pure, sinless white (dyable) flowers. then we dropped red coloring into the water and discussed how very soon, they will take on the red color (our sin) as Jesus did.
