God is good period. His GOODNESS, we cannot even begin to fathom in our fallen state. But we get a hint of His goodness in His graciousness towards us. Because of God's graciousness towards me, there is an overflow in my heart that longs to do good to others. Any "good" that is in me is ONLY Christ working in my heart. Any good fruit that is produced is evidence of the holy spirit. Goodness is the result of the Spirit working to soften hearts, and goodness flows out of those whose hope is in Jesus.
I am desperate for my kids to not be tempted to believe that being "good" results in salvation. But may the Lord turn their hearts from stone to flesh, may He penetrate their hearts in a way that leads them to authentic heart change, life change. The object of their faith will be sufficient to reconcile them to God, so may my boys' goodness simply be evidence of a greater, saving faith.
